Wise For My Size coaching teaches children how their brains work and how they think, enabling them to build confidence and resilience. It promotes growth mindset, emotional intelligence and gives children skills for life. The sessions are based around unique, specifically written transformational tales.
In coaching we assume that the coachee has all the resources they need to find the solution or answer they seek. When coaching children this includes teaching them new skills, concepts and techniques. This then creates a safe space to practice these new skills before the child uses them in real life. The way the Wise For My Size coaching program does this is through transformational stories, activities and the power of imagination.
The stories cover a range of different topics including knowing how to handle worry, how to come back from mistakes, loving their unique self, learning how to self-regulate, and not living in fear but make all their choices from a place of positive mental strength and strong self-belief.
The sessions follow the six-step Wise For My Size process:
Did you know that our brains are wired to respond to a story differently from hearing an instruction or a fact? Listening to a story simultaneously switches several parts of the brain: thinking, communication, problem-solving and critical thinking.
So, without nagging, lecturing, or preaching, you can start to plant ideas, explore tricky topics, and change perceptions simply by reading a Wise For My Size storybook.
In Step two, We Reflect on how the story makes us think, feel and remember. This is a powerful way to deepen the teachings the story can offer.
As we are coaching children, our approach has to include elements of teaching to introduce new concepts, like the comfort zone or self-talk.
In Step three, we Explore new ideas and concepts and develop empathy by considering different perspectives of the story from each character's point of view.
In Step four, by taking all this new learning and trying out new ideas, strategies, tools, and beliefs to see what works best.
If you want to develop new patterns of behaviour or new ways of thinking, it is essential to plan and prepare when you will use them. In step five, we Prepare, is about getting ready for the next tricky time or opportunity.
Practice makes progress! We are over perfection - it's all about progress! It is those little changes that make the most significant ripples in life.
The final step teaches us that we must keep practicing our new tools, learning, and strategies until they become familiar and easy. Then you are Wise For Your Size!
